Tokutei Ginou (特定技能) or Specified Skilled Worker is a visa program introduced by the Japanese government in 2019 to address labor shortages in certain sectors. This program allows foreign workers to work in Japan in several industries that require skilled workers.

Engineer status of residence, also known as Gijinkoku (技術・人文知識・国際業務), is a common type of work visa in Japan, known in English as Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services. This visa is designed for individuals working in the fields of technology, science, humanities, and international services in Japan. This visa is usually an advanced worker visa, intended for workers who have expertise in a specific field.

1. Foreign Workers
   Individuals from countries that have cooperation agreements with Japan, especially in certain skill areas. One of them is Indonesia.
2.  Age
   Generally, applicants must be between 18 and 40 years old.
   Notes: the maximum age limit can change depending on the Recipient Company.
3. Skills
   Applicants must have skills or expertise in fields needed by industry in Japan, such as construction, maintenance, agriculture, and manufacturing.
4. Japanese Language Ability
   Applicants are usually required to have basic Japanese language skills, which can be proven through an exam or certificate. Minimum level N4.
5. Skills Test
   Applicants need to pass a skills test that is appropriate to the field of work they will be doing in Japan.
6. Physically and mentally healthy
   Applicants must be in good health and be able to meet the established medical requirements.

1. Tokutei Ginou Visa (TG)
– Minimum Age 18 Years
– Last Education High School/Vocational High School Equivalent
– Have a Japanese Language Proficiency Certificate of at least JFT A2 or JLPT N4
– Have a SSW Certificate (Skills Certificate) in the field of interest.

Note: If you have previously been an intern in the same field, and want to work again in that field, you can attach the certificate obtained during the internship/after completing the internship.

2. Engineer Visa (Gijinkoku)
– Minimum Education Equivalent to Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a field relevant to the job of interest.
– Have a Japanese language proficiency certificate equivalent to N4-N2 (*Depending on needs).

Note: Having other supporting certificates related to the field of interest is a plus point.
